Chiropractic is a science art and philosophy, aimed at locating and correcting small dysfunctions of the spinal vertebrae (called vertebral subluxation by Chiropractors). These subluxations can affect the communication pathways between the brain and the body, making it harder for the brain to accurately know what is going on in the environment, both within and around the body.
It is a known fact that our nervous system controls everything that happens in our bodies; in every cell, tissue, organ and system. Any interference to this communication system between brain and body can lead to ‘dis-ease’ dysfunction and less than optimal health.
Chiropractors are carefully trained to locate these subluxations (dysfunctions) along the spine and correct them over time. This allows the normal communication between brain, nervous system and the rest of the body to be restored. Your body’s natural, inborn healing mechanism is then able to make any necessary repairs unhindered and restore good health and function!
To become a Chiropractor takes a minimum of 5 years of study at a tertiary institution. A typical course involves studying all the basic sciences including anatomy, physiology and neurology, along with 1 – 2 years of clinical training

Most people initially consult a chiropractor because of some kind of musculoskeletal pain. However helping people suffering from neck or low back pain doesn’t even begin to describe all the many things chiropractic care can help with.
Some of the conditions that people tell us have been helped during their chiropractic care are:
It is important to recognise that chiropractic is not a treatment for these conditions. Rather, chiropractic helps neurological communication between the body and brain, so helps the body be more accurately aware of what is going on in and around it, so that it can respond more effectively.
At Maynooth Chiropractic, we use a range of chiropractic techniques tailored to your individual needs.
These include
One or more of these may be used. Your chiropractor is specially trained to determine where chiropractic adjustments are needed and which technique best suits your unique requirements.
During a chiropractic check-up, your Doctor of Chiropractic will generally be looking for indicators like postural changes, such things as feet turning in or out, how your body is moving and to see if the muscles are working the same on each side of your body. They may also perform, other orthopaedic and neurological tests.
These and other signs can all indicate that dysfunction in your spinal joints (vertebral subluxations) are present. The sooner they are corrected, the sooner your body can go back to working properly and you can get back to doing the things you love, with the people you love.
From the time we are born and right throughout life, a regular chiropractic check up helps us to be, and feel our best.
